Dear readers,

Thank you for supporting the Nazareth Area High School news blog. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our stories with you and our extended Blue Eagle family since 2017. Sadly, this will be the final post for News from the Nest, but this is not the final word from our journalists. We are excited to share that the original NAHS school newspaper, The Blue and White Standard, is coming back! The first issue was published in 1931 by a staff of talented NAHS writers. The next issue is coming out in 2023 as a digital publication created by another staff of talented NAHS writers. Our goal is to live up to their standard with our Standard.

Nazareth Area High School was abuzz this week with festive musical activities!

Spanish Christmas Carols

On Tuesday, December 19, Nazareth High School Spanish Club members spread cheer across Nazareth by singing loud for all to hear. Students caroled through neighborhoods near the high school and center Belvidere, making sure everyone got in the holiday spirit.

Fourteen years ago, Señora Andrea Faller, a Spanish teacher at Nazareth Area High School, decided to start a Spanish caroling event for those in Nazareth. The Spanish Club members performed songs such as “Fum, Fum, Fum, Oh, Be Joyful” and “Three Kings Day.”

Faller said this is a great way to “spread Spanish Christmas cheer.”

Duelling Herrs Weihnachten

The second annual Dueling Herrs was held by the Nazareth Area High School German Club on Thursday, December 21 after school in Frau Mary Spitzmueller’s German classroom. The competition was between Herr Roman Spitzmueller and Herr Tyler Cressman, another German teacher at Nazareth, along with their bands comprised of German Club student musicians and vocalists. Prior to the students’ arrival, both Herrs chose the song that they wanted to perform; each brought his own guitar and musical talent. When students arrived, they were split into groups and assigned to work with either Herr Cressman or Herr Spitzmueller. The two bands then went to separate classrooms, where they started to prepare for their impromptu performances.

After the bands practiced for about 45 minutes, the judges arrived, signalling the start of the performances. Herr Spitzmueller and his band started by playing “Alle Jahre Wieder” before Herr Cressman and his band retaliated with their rendition of “Rudolf das Kleine Rentier.” The judges then deliberated and declared Herr Cressman’s team the winner. Hearing about the win, Cressman exclaims that it was among the “top ten moments of my life, but I couldn’t have done it without my band.”

Along with making memories, the students who attended received passes to gain bonus points on assessments.
